That's documented (I think.) If the file being exported is just a
copy or an edit based on only one clip then the metadata will copy
through. Otherwise, not. Reference shouldn't make a difference, but I
can't recall whether I have tried that case.

Thanks Helena,
The picture gets a little bit clearer every day.
But here the next one ;-) What will happen with the QT metadata if
a file is rendered or exported from FCP as referenced file?
Thanks

Hi Andreas!
No, today the metadata is not indexed by Spotlight. We're working
on enabling this in the long term, but turning on universal
metadata indexing introduces performance challenges that need to
be addressed.

Eryk,
Many thanks for the detailed answer (and thanks again Wes for the
link),
The reason I was asking is where - if at all - these data are
visible to the user within FCP. But that now has been answered.
The next question I had "propagate into edited sequences" is
answered as well.
Another question is, if I would modify the metadata within the
current limitations are they searchable by a Spotlight search
(includes Xsan search in 10.5)?
