Gamma issue?

Apologies if this has already been covered...

Images in Motion appear too light, as if they're being rendered to 1.8 gamma instead of 2.2. This can be easily verified by opening a standard sRGB JPEG into Motion and also opening it in Preview. DigitalColor Meter will verify that the values displayed are quite different.

It's an issue if you want to do anything color-related in Motion, because as soon as you roundtrip back to FCP, the image gets darker. I've found myself applying a Gamma of 0.89 to my entire project in Motion, and then turning it off when I'm ready to render.

I understand that Motion is probably bypassing ColorSync to improve speed. But maybe we should have a "Display Gamma" slider in Motion's preferences? Running under 10.6, it would default to 2.2, otherwise 1.8, and it would be manually adjustable if you knew what you were doing...

Ben
