Apple will not.

They've pulled it from the online store and it's been recalled from the Apple Stores...

If you have FCS 3, good for you, but you can't buy it from Apple anymore. 

Really that's bizarre, I in the last 24 hours had two users buy FCS 3 on basis that we would not work in FCP X ...
This is getting close to be one of the worstly managed software release I have seen in my life...

Senior Apple staff have insisted that FCPX and related apps are "Professional" and that the Professional's will be able to continue with the new product. Perhaps their take on the Advertising, Television and Feature Film industry is correct. Perhaps the whole world needs to use ProRes and iPads... and nothing else. For the time being, I will evaluate whats left of the future of the Final Cut Marketplace. (ie: the crater where FCS and QuickTime used to be..) I believe the best thing for me to do, is to sit back from the Apple dominated post production market and wait to see where consumers, indies and studios go with their money. I know of some larger facilities that are in the process of switching from FCS to Adobe premiere, for instance. Its not a reflection of the entire industry, certainly, but it is definitely a harbinger of change.

Lastly, due to the American "Sarbanes/Oxley" law, Apple can not add new functionality to a product, without charging for the update. This appears to mean that we are stuck with this steaming mess for at least 2 years. Very likely longer.
