For your own filters, you need to create a Motion project showing the effect. I recommend looking at the app-supplied versions to see how they work and mimicking their length and structure. (They can be found inside Motion's Application bundle in Motion.app/Contents/LibraryContent/Filters/<category>/<filter name>.) You then need to change the document's extension to ".mopr" (short for Motion Preview), and you need to update your plugin's Info.plist file with the path of the preview file for the key "previewPath" in its ProPlugPluginList entry.
