Animation speed consistency in published title generators?

  • Thread-topic: Animation speed consistency in published title generators?

This may not be an high-end dev question, but I think it is relevant to
those using Motion templates to make their FxPlug effects available in Final
Cut Pro X.

How do you create an effect that animates objects at a consistent speed -
even if you change the duration of the title or clip the effect is applied
to?

I'm working on a Text Crawl title effect with a few extra features - mainly
the ability to allow for any amount of text to crawl across the screen and
clear the left-edge (as well as snapshots for FCP X's three main display
aspect ratios).

Whether I apply Rate parameter behaviour on the X co-ordinate, a Throw
behaviour or Wind simulation behaviour to the text, the input values get
scaled when the duration of the template is changed.

This means users can't set all text crawls to have the same speed: the same
values in different instances of the title effect will result in varying
animation speeds.

Although Avid generators have worked this way for many years, I've always
thought this was an example of a programmers way of thinking about the
problem disrupting the user model of how editing works.

Does anyone know how to make animation speed independent of motion template
instance duration?

Alex
