I have never personally gotten mpg files in an .mov container to work in fcpx. Neither have I had any luck with .avi files, despite the fact that they are listed as being acceptable. Handbrake works great to batch transcode those files for use in FCPX.

And to be clear, I'm told that:

we do have MPEG-1 codec support if the file is in a QT .mov container.  (There are some MPEG-1 based camcorders that are supported in this way.)

But that if it's a .mpg file, there's no way to support that directly in FCPX.

Oh, and re-reading the list a little more carefully, I see that it does support QT formats. So if you have an MPEG-1 QT codec, I would think that should work.

Heinz,

I'm not sure about the first question - whether there's a way to use MPEG-1 files in FCPX. I've asked internally and will see if I can get an answer.

But the answer to the second question is that there is a list in the documentation:

FCP-X 10.0.7 does not import MPEG-1 files.
Is this true in general for FCP-X or is there a special component available which enables FCP-X to import MPEG files ?
Also , is there a list available which type of files FCP- imports and which one not ?
