Hi Chery,
Log files are the first place to go. You can use the application "Console" on the client to view the system.log. On the server, in Server Admin, with the server selected, you can click the "Logs" button and view the system.log from there.
It sounds like you are using pure network homes, is that the case? Any mobility preferences set? If so send along screenshots for all your mobility settings, as well, please :)

My students are constantly getting an error message stating that their file is open elsewhere when trying to re-save their documents to our leopard server. We use WGM with individual logins and managed preferences. The client machines and server are running Leopard 10.5.8. We are using Office 2008. I cannot find any solutions through the Apple discussion lists or Microsoft websites. Help would be greatly appreciated.
