We are looking at 2 colleges to use the iPads. The College of Education see several applications; interactive books for children, learning games, painting applications, etc. They also use notebooks within the classroom to conduct research for their courses, the iPad allows a much smaller form factor. One other thing I have noticed while working on the iPad is the use of both hands, with a computer my dominant hand controls the mouse while with the iPad I find I use either hand - it would be interesting for the psychologist to tell us we are changing out thought patterns slightly?
Business sees the application are to develop an information gathering portal. The small form factor allows mobility, access to data (I also do Institutional Research and am using the iPad to access my SharePoint Server in meetings), and basic email/web functionality.
Of course all are very interested in electronic books. I have found both the Kindle and iBook applications work very well, one has more titles while the other has a dictionary.
We are just beginning our discussions but after a week and a half that is where we are today and so far looks like exciting times. |
