Subject: [Rockies-Edu] What is an ATSE?
Wanted to give you all a heads-up of an event we have coming to the Rockies region this summer.
First of all, what is an ATSE? That is an acronym for Apple Technology Seminars for Education. My former customers in KS/OK/MO knew the term "At-See" quite well as they expected 1-2 per year. It is a 2-day event where Apple Systems Engineers deliver demos and hands-on sessions to education customers, focusing on relevant topics such as server setup, imaging and deployment, client management, directory services, content creation, command-line, etc. They are great events.
The problem is that I always had to get 3-4 of my buddies together in order to pull off such an event, as they took a ton of time and manpower. We would have 3 classrooms going at once, and we would typically teach up to a total of 6-8 individual topics. It has become somewhat overwhelming for us, and by the middle of day 2, 90% of our customers were suffering from information overload.
We're going to take a different approach in this region, and I hope that it brings more flexibility and focus to all of you while still allowing Apple SEs to deliver the content that you need.
For now, we're going to focus on one topic at our first ATSE in Colorado, and that is Mac OS X Server setup and best practices.
Nothing has been posted to edseminars.apple.com yet, so there's nothing to register for at this time. Here are the details that we know so far.
- This will be a one-day event, held in Louisville, CO.
- We will do the same seminar, at the same facility, on back-to-back days so that we can accommodate as many people as possible
- We're going to have a lower price point ($149/person) since this is a one-day event instead of 2 days
- In order to deliver a hands-on experience, we're going to require you to bring an Intel-based Apple laptop that can be formatted and restored
- Attendees will need to partner up with another person. One system will be set up as a server, and the other system will be set up as a client
- If you deal with Mac OS X Server in your environment, but don't know all of the details and best practices regarding how to set one up, this event is for you
- If you have never worked with Mac OS X Server, but would like to learn, this event is for you
- If you have set up Mac OS X Server a lot of times and a have a really good handle on the administration of it, this event is NOT for you
- We will feed you lunch
- We might have a good joke or two
Our dates are June 2-3, 2010 for this event. Remember, this is not a 2-day event. We are delivering the same 1-day event on back-to-back days.
If you're interested, reserve the date! As soon as the registration information is finalized and posted, I'll share that info with this list. I aim to deliver this same event in other areas, but those final decisions haven't been made yet. To pull that off, we'll need a facility to use (this is a hint, as we're happy to consider using your institution if you think it would be a good fit) and it's always good to have 20+ people.
Questions? Suggestions? Feel free to send them my way. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to it.
Corey
