As I was preparing to install Final Cut Studio, I found a note that states that "Installing Final Cut Studio and entering the serial number automatically unlocks the extended multimedia capabilities of QuickTime Pro."
Not sure if this applies to installing just Final Cut Pro.

A few weeks ago when searching for information on when there might be a true 64-bit version of Final Cut Pro available, I had found an article claiming that QuickTime 7 was still needed for Final Cut Pro to work. It sounded like some of the advanced features and plug-ins used in QuickTime 7 still needed to be added into QuickTime X. That could also explain why QuickTime 7 is an optional component on the Snow Leopard client install disc.

All versions of QuickTime are installed with the Pro abilities grayed out until a valid license code is entered for the Pro version.
