I love books. Tattered Cover is the best store in the world. I carried an 1100 page hardcover with me over Christmas travel to the east coast because I dislike all current formats (digital and physical) that eBooks and eReaders offer. Books will always have a place, especially due to issues of digital copyright and heck, a book doesn't need oil to power it.
But I think this student's point stands very tall: he would be better off with a tool that he is comfortable with, and once thusly enabled his achievements would exceed the expectations associated with "traditional" learning.
