We use Active Directory here, but not the PKI part. That said, we did have to go through something similar. I was able to find a couple of online resources that helped us be successful with AppleTV.
Particularly the section on importing the certificate. Note that for our case, we went to a Mac computer that had the certificate in question/needed, used the Keychain app to get to the required cert, exported the cert, and then used that exported file
to import into configurator. Once it is imported, you MUST ensure that it actually gets "trusted". That is, just because you successfully import the cert in Configurator does NOT (at least in our case) mean that it has a checkmark next to the cert in the
"Trust" section.
Seemed like we have to go through some specific steps to ensure that our new "configuration" was actually saved to the profile. You can normally check that by looking at the AppleTV settings after it's imported the profile. The settings should reflect
what you stated in configurator.
