Indeed thanks Brandon! Late to the discussion here, my apologies.
A key piece about migrating from redemption codes to VPP Managed Distribution
is only codes managed by Apple Configurator 1 are eligible for conversion. If
you have redeemed codes to individual Apple IDs, then those app licenses are
permanently associated to that individual Apple ID.
Rory, I understand you want to stay clear of MDM to keep the management simple.
I’m an advocate for MDM, but if you are plugging devices into the cart to
refresh them often, and you don’t require certain MDM-only features (like Lost
Mode or Shared iPad), AC2 might be the right tool for your needs.
Since you’re using a Mac for management, I would take a close look at content
caching and Internet sharing in macOS 10.13. With these features on you can
make app installing super fast and easy (for AC2 or MDM managed apps).
