Mike,
Yes and no--technically it supports it, but in a school setting, it is a
little weird connecting from non-Apple devices.
For instance, we authenticate with a single user, but each end user uses
their own account. The Mac can connect to it via the authenticated user,
and all is well.
However, connecting to it from anything besides a Mac (using standard
VNC clients), it will ONLY connect to the user you authenticate with.
Meaning, if a teacher is logged in with their name and password, but you
connect via a standard user, the screen you're looking at is the user
you authenticated with, NOT the user you are trying to assist.
Because of that, we've had to push out the paid version of TeamViewer to
all of our computers. It's better right now anyway where everyone is
working from home...
If you know of a better solution or a workaround to the above, I'm all
ears.
Thanks,
Kyle

Hi Pat,
macOS absolutely supports VNC.

What is the status of allowing remote access to an OSX device to a
non-Apple user at home running Windows or Linux via VNC or other
