- Thread-topic: Announcing Migration to Apple School Manager
Hi Everyone.
I hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend.
I wanted to share a quick update on Apple School Manager.
Starting on July 14, U.S customers will be able to migrate their Apple Deployment Programs organization to Apple School Manager.
When an Apple Deployment Program Agent logs into https://deploy.apple.com, they will be prompted to migrate. Please note that this migration is not immediately mandatory and the dialog box can be closed, bypassing the migration. Eventually it will be mandatory to migrate to Apple School Manager.
To help prepare for the migration I have included some useful information below.
Additionally I will be holding a WebEx regarding the migration on July 13, 10AM PST. Please RSVP to me (email@hidden<mailto:email@hidden>) if you are interested and I will send out the WebEx information. Right now my WebEx account can support approximately 75 users. If demand is high enough I will hold a second WebEx at 1PM PST on July 13.
Lastly, Apple ID for Students program will officially be shut down on July 30. ID’s generated under this program will continue to work, but access to generate new ID’s and password resets for ID’s created under this program will be turned off.
Thanks and as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email or call.

1. Review Prepare to upgrade to Apple School Manager (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206590)
2. Evaluate your existing VPP accounts.
— If you have access to the Volume Purchase Program (VPP), but are not enrolled in the Device Enrollment Program, you should sign up now. To expedite enrollment, use your VPP agent account. (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201078)
— If you have other VPP accounts not associated with your Apple Deployment Programs (ADP) organization, follow directions in "Prepare to upgrade to Apple School Manager" to consolidate your VPP purchasers. Taking this action will enable you to easily reset passwords on your existing VPP purchaser accounts. This consolidation can not be done after you upgrade to ASM.
3. Prepare your infrastructure.
— Upgrade your Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution. Consult with your MDM provider to install their latest release and investigate if the vendor's latest release supports iOS 9.3, ASM, and Classroom.
— Test and migrate device-based app assignment. Released with iOS 9.0, device-based assignment of apps allows your school to deploy and update apps over the air without requiring Apple IDs on devices.
— Evaluate iOS 9.3's new management capabilities. If you are deploying iPad, you will find enhancements including hiding apps and laying out the Home Screen.
4. Prepare your devices.
— Install the latest versions of iOS and macOS. Managed IDs require at least iOS 9.3 (9.3.2 or later recommended) or OS X 10.11.4.
Additionally, if you haven’t already done so, this would be a good time to review the Apple School Manager Help documentation (https://help.apple.com/schoolmanager/)
