11. Web Objects - avantages??? (Fred Dupuis)
Fred,
Based on my experience with different tools to develop web based
application (ie. BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere), I can tell you that the
WebObject option is one of the best in the market.
We are working in Mexico with companies like Sigma Alimentos, Alestra,
etc. using this tool. These companies considered tools like .NET and
after a conscious analysis they decided to use WebObjects.
Some advantages:
Cost: The price that you pay for the tool, application server,
relational to object modeler (EOModeler), deploy license, etc. is a
part of what you need to pay with other technologies.
Transportability. You can deploy in almost any platform.
Technology. WO is based on java. The components and frameworks are very
stable and polished.
Reduced development time: The frameworks provided by Apple and the
paradigm used to develop using WO reduce the time to market.
Cons:
Learning curve. You need to take at least a one week course to don't
waste time trying to reinvent the wheel. (Now you can find good books
in amazon. Try "Professional WebObjects 5.0 with java")
Saludos,
Daniel Mejma Sanchez
