Java 1.4.1 isn't supported with any version of WO. The recent WO
5.2.1 release deals with some known problems with Java 1.4.1. But WO
5.0 would likely be quite troublesoome with Java 1.4.1. I wouldn't
develop or deploy any WO app under Java 1.4.1 until Apple supports it.
However, Java 1.3.1 is solid.
However, I have no idea whether that could be related to your slow
performance. There have been performance improvements with WO versions
after 5.0, so you might consider installing a later version.
b) Is the translation of both, the Java Client and the Web
Application, as
easy as development in Obective-C using the PB/IB (I am ObjC
developer)?
The IDE should be quite familiar to you, but Java isn't ObjC.
NeXT/Apple has done the same thing with Web app development as it did
with desktop development, so if you were comfortable with the ObjC
frameworks, you should find the Java frameworks similar in philosophy.
c) Is it possible (without bigger problems) to move the server from
Linux to
another (maybe SUN, maybe HP) machine?
Solaris is a supported environment unlike Linux and HP-UX. So Solaris
is probably less troublesome than Linux.
Hopefully, others with Java Client experience will answer your other
questions.

Art
