adding e-commerce to project

G'day to y'all,
I'm onto the project of adding some e-commerce to my apps and I've been looking at WebObjects PetStore Example, from what I see, I can follow what is going on and ultimatley understand all the code but one thing is baffling me: "What is the LineItem table/entity doing?" I don't understand the link between the Order table/entity and the Item table/entity.
If some one could explain it's purpose I should be well away to get on with this. I just can't see it for looking at it.

Regards
Jonathan :^)
