java client beginner question

hrm. so if i want a thin client what is a better option for me, should i totally ditch web objects completely, or just do alot more coding on my own. do you really think that high bandwidth users will have a lag when using a java client app?

maybe i should deploy it as an applet instead (direct to java or web i think it's called or something along those lines)
