You'd be surprised how wonderful of a job Apple has done with backwards compatibility. Last week at Machack a man who was at the Baptist conference in the hotel said he was an OpenStep developer. In two days he learned about the OS and ported his app to the Mac.
WO is going to have less of the bugs thanks to Panther as far as I can tell. Rumor has it some of the incompatible Obj-C stuff will work better or be Java-native. I'm a little unsure how well xCode works with WO, but we'll have to wait for a .3 update to WO to be able to tell. From what I see about xCode I'm thinking BUGGY at first. Smart linking? Lets just think about this for a sec... I really hope they've tested this EXTENSIVELY.
Anyway, WO is a separate product from xCode, but if they want us to pay that seriously profitable ransom they will continue to support it. Most of WO is Java, so everything in Panther SHOULD be backwards-compatible. Besides, the only real competitor, ASP.NET, sucks big time. I hate using their stupid profile window crap. Talk about HORRIBLE interface design...
With Lots of Visual Studio Hate, ;)
