I suppose what really frosts me about this is the perceived lack of testing by the WO team. Apple has been distributing seeds of Java 1.4.1 since last October, and anyone with a free online developer license could get them. Was the WO team grabbing them and trying basic qualification on the pre-releases?

Okay, people use WO on non-OSX platforms too. On Solaris and on Windows, it's been _possible_ to install JRE 1.4.1 for a while now. And I think some people may even be using 1.4.1 on these platforms with WO----but I've seen on the list people reporting many problems with it too. I don't use OSX, but that's why I haven't upgraded to 1.4.1 on Solaris or on Windows----becuase A) The Apple docs specifically say it's qualified for 1.3.1, and B) on the lists (maybe the omnigroup list before this list was created), people who have tried it have said that 1.4.1 didn't work.

So, really, the Apple engineers didn't need the OSX 1.4.1 seed to know that WO doesn't work properly with 1.4.1. Windows and Solaris installations show that too. Now, I sometimes don't know how much any Apple engineers pay any attention to Windows or Solaris (see the 5.2 WOFileUpload which has bugs on those platforms that are immediately apparent to anyone that tries to use it). But it seems likely to me that the WO team has known for quite a while that WO doesn't work with 1.4.1. I don't think whatever is causing the problems appeared between the last seed and the release, I think WO just doesn't work on 1.4.1. On any platform.

I don't neccesarily expect them to fix this ASAP. I have no idea how much work it would be to fix. I don't neccesarily expect them to do extensive testing of WO with 1.4.1, on OSX or any other platform. Hey, maybe I'm just greatful that we have 1.3.1 now, after all those years stuck at the truly ancient 1.1.8. But if WO only works on 1.3.1, so be it, WO only works on 1.3.1, no big deal.

I can see how you folks are annoyed that 1.4.1 was _automatically_ installed on your computers with the auto upgrader, and that broke WO. Really, they should have considered WO in this process, and at the very least publicized a reminder that WO is only qualified with 1.3.1, for WO users. A reminder of an already existing fact. It would have been a lot better if they had reminded folks of this, ESPECIALLY since their upgrade software apparently automatically installs 1.4.1, which breaks WO.

But there's no reason to be annoyed that WO doesn't work with 1.4.1. 1.4.1 has been out on other platforms for quite a while, and WO has not worked with it. This is not new news. It would be nice if they'd fix it to work with the now standard 1.4.1, sure. But this is nothing new.
