Development is definitely nicer under OS X, IMHO. This is mainly
because Apple has continued to enhance the developer tools under OS X
unlike under Windows. The last time I developed WO apps under Windows,
I was plagued by severe file system fragmentation and resulting
performance degradation caused by the repeated creation and destruction
of files during builds. And for those accustomed to using the many
Unix utilities, only a small subset have been ported to Windows making
it a much less capable development environment.
and b) Deployment?
IIS under Windows has been more troublesome than Apache under OS X.
But Apache is also available for Windows. Others will have to express
their preferences because I have little Windows deployment experience.
Final question: I have already purchased WO 5.1. Is there some
compelling
reason to upgrade to 5.2 before I begin my project, or should I just go
ahead and save my money for now and work with WO 5.1?
WO 5.2, being a later version than 5.1, will likely receive more bug
fix and enhancement updates. 5.2 includes some performance
improvements and other new features that are nice to have. While
porting from 5.1 to 5.2 isn't usually difficult, you'll probably have
to do so at some point, so why not avoid doing so and develop under
5.2. If you license OS X Server now for deployment, a WO 5.2
Deployment license is included.

Art
