Dear WO Gurus,
I am new to WebObjects and starting out on my first HTML front end
application development to allow users to work with a backend database. I am
using WO 5.1.4. Since I have no legacy systems to worry about, I want to
select the right database and server solution for use with WebObjects. Any
advice please from those that have used more than one database type and more
than one platform with WebObjects would be sincerely appreciated.
My deployment will eventually need an unlimited access and run on one
server.
Database:
----------------
Should I use Openbase or MySQL or something else, keeping in mind that I
don't want to use Microsoft SQL Server due to its excessive unlimited
license costs.
Server:
-----------
I have Windows 2000 server machines and Mac OS X 10.2 machines available to
me (I can also install OS X Server on one of the Macs if recommended). If
any of you have worked with WebObjects on both platforms, which would you
recommend for a) Development and b) Deployment? Again I will initially be
using WO 5.1.4 and in the future will upgrade to 5.2
Final question: I have already purchased WO 5.1. Is there some compelling
reason to upgrade to 5.2 before I begin my project, or should I just go
ahead and save my money for now and work with WO 5.1?
