I'm not so surprised, but the problem is, XCode doesn't seem to tell me what that error is.

the Errors and Warnings item in the left panel is grey. Clicking the disclosure triangle discloses nothing. The error is a well-kept > secret

The problem was a .gif file which I had added to the project some time ago, without copying it into the project folder. When I moved the project to the Panther Mac I did not look for stray items in WebServer/Documents/Images


In this particular case the image was a temporary placeholder (actually alex.gig from a Simpsons collection) that was no longer used by the project. This may have have been what confused the Errors and Warnings list. Since the item was not referenced by any source file, the error could not be attached to a source line.
