Hi,
just got my copy of WO 5.2 after a long time of procrastination.
I wanted to know from any of you experienced people out there whether
there are problems with running 5.2 under Java 1.4.1 - I know Apple
doesn't support it, but that's another story.
Also, and this may be related to the previous question, what is the
reality of DirectToJava clients. I know the book says talks about
amazing flexibility, ease of use etc, but already I am finding niggling
behaviour with, say, the example entities Student and Activity (from
the manual/book), I find you have to be very careful in how you add
activities to a student. One example is in saving an activity you just
added and then adding another - when you go to save the second time, it
would appear that the studentid has been nulled somehow by the save and
of course the insert statement fails. This can then lead to a cycle of
errors. I think this would be unacceptable for the average user.
Another thing that fails to work for me is the search on an attribute
for an entity - I can get all results back but not specific ones.
I'm quite prepared to believe that I am doing things incorrectly - this
is so often the case!. Can somebody tell me that I have to endure a
certain level of pain before it all gets better? Any good books on the
subject (I have ones on the Web stuff)?
I'm using Postgres with the PluginBundle provided by Kenny Leung, on a
recent PowerBook
thanks
John Walker
