I missed the begining of this thread, but I'm curious why you are
struggling to install WebObjects on Linux using the old approach. If
you are going to deploy on Linux but build on the Mac with XCode then I
would suggest using the modern WebObjects deployment mechanism rather
than the old installation approach. Simply setup and build your
application as a "true war" and install the war file in your favorite
J2EE server (e.g. JBoss). With this approach there is no hassle.
Simply install Apache and JBoss on your Linux box and add your latest
application war file to the deployment directory. You don't need to
install WebObjects on Linux. Because WebObjects isn't installed on your
deployment server you can simply keep your development machine updated
with the latest version of WO and copy your latest war file to the
server. You don't need to update WO on your deployment server since
there is nothing to update. With the combination of slick new features
introduced in Panther, XCode and the WebObjects development
applications, development on the Mac is better than ever and you can
easily deploy to Linux.
