mode'? I think you need an SMTP server (in daemon mode, I guess) for

Of course, WOMailDelivery is not the only way to send email from a
WebObjects application. You can also use the JavaMail package. And I
think Project Wonder has a 'wrapper' that uses JavaMail but with
friendlier API. I have no idea how to use JavaMail, and if you can
set up JavaMail to work with Sendmail in standalone mode.

For a demo application, use a user@localhost as the email address. If that
user doesn't have spam filtering set up (via spamassassin), you should be
fine.
And, for what it's worth, I am a sysadmin.
