I have to chime in on this one IDEA IntelliJ rocks... I've not gotten
smooth development process alignment with WO parts as yet, but IDEA
takes all you get with Eclipse and adds speed, more useable features,
and less time messing with the mechanical parts of writing code.
If only WOLips was really running integrated with IDEA...

Drew,
I use Intellij's IDEA. I tried Eclipse due to the major shortcomings
of Project Builder/, and hoped that Xcode would be a significant
update that could challenge Eclipse or IDEA but was let down.
The reason I use IDEA, I enjoy the interface more, has great code
completion, refactoring, and support for ant, as well as a number of
other useful features. Originally I started by piecing together a
build process based on an Ant script that was posted to the list, then
thanks to some help from Jesse Barnum I moved to using WOProject for
the build process.
I never got into Eclipse for purely personal reasons, just could not
get comfortable with the interface and at the time speed was also an
issue. But that was months and months ago and from what I have heard
3.0 is much better.
The major drawback of using IDEA currently is that the 5.2.2 update
broke WebObjects Builder's compatibility with the old pb.project style
project files. This mean you have to open the project in Xcode to get
the variables and actions to show up at all WOB. As well as use Xcode
if you want to use the wizards to start projects, I have simply
created a default project that I duplicate to start new projects at
this point.
I am crossing my fingers that in WO 6 we will get full Ant support and
tools that are not dependent on Xcode to function, but that is pie in
the sky at this point. I believe personally that either Eclipse or
IDEA are far better tools then Xcode in the current iteration.
Since switching to IDEA I found my development time went down
considerably due to all the tools built into IDEA. You will be amazed
how much time you save with "real" code completion with on the fly
java docs, which either Eclipse or IDEA will provide.
One other note is that IDEA has support for Weblogic and JBoss, as
does Eclipse I believe. This may be important in the future if as some
have questioned, Apple abandons the old deployment method in favor of
one of these application servers.
Just my 2" your mileage may vary.
