The concern is the lack of widespread use of WebObjects. Some may feel that Apple is not promoting the technology in a way to promote its widespread use. Additionally, some may feel that making it open source would allow the technology to gain some more widespread usage.

That's exactly the problem. Technologically WO is really nifty, but if I can't find a job doing WebObjects development because so few companies use it then what's the point? Did I waste the last 4 years of my life learning and using WO while I was in school just to find out that now I've graduated there's no jobs? Should I have spent that time learning J2EE or otherwise?


As for open sourcing WO, I really don't see that it would help. As it is, there's virtually no community of developers that get together and build add ons for WO. (There's a few, but not many.) If Apple decided to give up control of a technology that's obviously very important to their Internet offerings, would a community large enough to support WO actually appear out of the blue to further the development?
