Pierre: I'm not sure if any of this information has been helpful.
However, I just remembered something else. Initially we setup the
server with JavaMonitor starting at boot time. The system seemed to be
a bit unstable, after a few days the entire server would reboot. Not
knowing really why the reboot was occurring, we did 2 things, 1)
stopped having JavaMonitor start at boot time and 2) disabled "Restart
automatically if computer freezes" under the Energy Saver settings.
Change #2 was a recommendation I found posted under the server
discussion lists. Since we did both of the settings, the system
stabilized. We never troubleshooted it further to see it the issue was
simply #1 or #2. In any case, all seems fine, JavaMonitor can be
started via the command line and the system doesn't mysteriously
reboot.

Pierre: It was a bit of a pain at first. Once we got things ironed
out, things seem to be working fine. Here are some notes I posted back
in November with regards to getting deployment up and running:
Begin forwarded message:
Just in case anyone else runs into this problem, here's was cleared
everything up (so far):
Update /System/Library/StartupItems/WebObjects/WebObjects
- uncomment WOTASKD startup item
Update /Library/WebObjects/Configuration
- update the Owner as appserver and Group as appserverusr
- If anyone else has the more appropriate setting, please let me know
Update /etc/httpd/httpd.config
- add the following at the end of the file:
# Including WebObjects Configs
Include /System/Library/WebObjects/Adaptors/Apache/apache.conf
Currently we are running our test deployment environment on an older
dual-533 G4 with 1.5MB RAM. We did a format and install with Panther.
It's running 2 apps, 2 instances of one and 4 on the other. The 2
instance app has light traffic, both stop/start in the middle of the
night. The 4 instance app is hit continually 24 hours a day, cycling
instances every 3 hours.

George,
Could give a few more details on your installation I have had no end
of problems and I would like to discover the differences i.e. machine
type, memory, connections etc...
Thanks

Kieran: These are new apps that have been running for about a month.
We haven't run into any problems (yet).

An earlier post in this thread stated that the apps stopped
responding after a few days on the WO5.2.2/10.3 combination
........ then, unless I have misinterpreted the situation,
scheduling the app instances to restart nightly should keep them
running clean. So deploy multiple instances of the same app and
schedule them to restart at different times during night-time (if
that's off-peak)

James: You'll probably be fine. We have 2 projects that were
created and deployed with 5.2.2. You may want to consider 2
servers when you deploy, they'll make for easy maintenance while
maintaining availability of your apps.

Great!
I have convinced my partners to use WebObjects and now
I am getting very nervous about the 5.2.2 and Panther issues
especially since I just bought a new XServe!
In addition I have just spent a month reading and modeling
my application in EOModeler.... this better work.
Also, what do the experienced developers do? What I mean
is do you use D2W first and then freeze and customize or
do you just skip that? Also, since I hear a lot of bitching about
XCode, so I use Eclipse instead?
Just looking to start the development phase this week and
would like to start with the correct tools and approach.
Any thoughts would surely help me and the others.
