Well, I guess I am one of those with the tiny input since I am still
rather inexperienced with WO compared to the rest of the people on this
great list. However, so far I just love what I have seen and would like
to help as much as I could.
There is a problem with too many sites and IF we start a site it must
be a serious commitment from us so it gains enough "momentum" in terms
of being updated and extensive enough. It would be a shame if it died
within a year, but maybe that still would be better than "The Silence
of Apple" :-)
I would like that site to contain some kind of regular news from the WO
community. The reason for that is that I guess we all would benefit
from having one place to check for any WO-related news BUT also I
believe that a newbie WO-developer will get inspired just to see that
the community is alive so to speak. Also, it just might be a way easliy
see the different ways the technology is being used.
I would like these things on such a site:
- "10 reasons to choose WO"
- WO compared to other technologies
- Some success stories - the bigger the better
- An updated news section with short news like http://www.macnn.com or
so...
- An overview of the WO techonolgy
- A list of companies that use WO as developers
- A list of websites that is driven by WO (Apple had that before I
believe)
- A short guide how to get started (register at ADC, download the demo,
installing and making their first simple app)
If succesful we could then figure out what else is missing or even try
to integrate one or two of the existing sites in order to maker
everything even more clear and efficient.
I am also willing to provide server space if needed...

Alexandra

I would like some input. Who would be interested in contributing to a
WebObjects advocate site? I may be willing to fund the effort if we
have enough input and support.
I've been giving this a lot of thought over the last few days. I love
WebObjects, Apple, and all of the related technologies. I see many
people, like myself, interested in the technologies but asking the two
common questions...
1. Why WebObjects?
2. Is there a equivalent non-WO technology to do ____ ?
3. What is the future of WebObjects?
While there are several sites out there that talk bout WO-related
projects, and while the Apple site gives general marketing information,
there is nothing that actually addresses these areas. I wonder if
having a site devoted to this type of information, if it would be
beneficial to the cause. Maybe something that offered demo apps and
source? Maybe an area that reviewed technologies, compared them to
WebObjects, and offered input?
I would like thoughts on the following...
A. Do you feel it would help people learn about WebObjects?
B. Do you think new info would help consultants and developers "sell"
the idea to new clients?
C. If successful, what are the chances of getting official input from
Apple down the road?
D. What would you be willing to personally contribute (an app, source
code, review technologies, etc.)?
E. What items do you feel would be good on a site like this?
I want to see Apple prosper and grow WebObjects. I would like to open
up communication between the world and the WO developer community. I
would like to see developers have enough "ammo" to successfully pitch
and land a WebObjects project. Most of all, I would like to build
something that will eventually get Apple to open up a tad-bit more.
Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regardless of
how small or extensive your reply, I would like to know your thoughts.
Thanx,
Ryan
