More than just an analysis, i think a direct comparison is in order. something like "this is how you build an e-Widget using an EJB or JSP/Servlets/JDBC/Struts" and "This is how you do it in WO".

That's the thing I thought was woefully missing with WebObjects when I first started looking at it and until you take the plunge and either buy it or download a 200MB demo, it's very unclear as to how a WebObjects app is built and how it correlates to a JSP/Servlet/JDBC or EJB environment if that's where you're coming from and that along with .Net is where "most" developers will be coming from. There are few if any developers that start their career on WebObjects. They start with other tools that are either free or forced on them by an employer and then as they learn and start building complex applications they start thinking "there has to be a better way". Lucky for us there is.

The key to get the rest of the world to appreciate what is going on behind
the scenes would be an in depth analysis of the source code to explain to a
lay user what WO/EOF is doing for them. Seeing a running app probably
wouldn't give them the appreciation for the savings in terms of
implementation costs, support costs, overall lifescycle costs.

I think that analysis would be a great introduction to compare EJB to
WO/EOF.

Dov,

If I may, I would assume that Hunter meant to implement it ONLINE for
the rest of the world to see. It's great that WE all have it on our
boxes, but remember that the goal of the "Why WebObjects" site should
be to show others [whom do not yet have WebObjects] what they are
missing.

It has already been done - look in your

How about implementing Sun's PetStore or some similar reference app in
WO to show the superiority of the frameworks?

Another key issue for a site is as I said before - comparisons. That
way the chance of people interesting in other technologies will come
to us is bigger if they are looking for information about J2EE, .Net
and stumble over WO...
