I wouldn't bother, just comment out the startup lines in the script located at /Library/StartupItems/OpenBase/OpenBase.

I'm going to install the WebObjects Developer package on my PowerBook but I will be using MySQL. Is there a way to not install OpenBase?

It's nice to include OpenBase because it contains databases that are used in WO examples that you might want to run at some time.

Another approach to preventing OpenBase from being started during boot is to create a directory, /Library/StartupItems/.Inactive and move /Library/StartupItems/OpenBase into that directory. Then when you want to start OpenBase, move /Library/StartupItems/.Inactive to /Library/StartupItems and at a shell prompt, enter:

sudo SystemStarter start OpenBase
