I have to echo the question "where you gonna go to?" This question has weighed heavy on my mind lately.

Unfortunately, the small company I joined a while back hasn't panned out. We were able to buy stock but the company got bought, there was no IPO, and so we didn't get anything out of it. Now I have no stock, a thirty percent pay cut and a kick ass Postgres-Access skill set no one seems to want. I can understand why people go Oracle, .NET, (insert your expensive license, expensive training, software name here) its so they're marketable after the job is done. I can't make a decision for my company based on future job growth, so I guess I should've expected to be forced out of the field.

I've flirted with WebObjects for years, hoping that my foresight at seeing an incredible tool before the curve would put me in a position to capitalize on a trend. Have you seen any ads lately? Degree, three years of .NET experience and you get $30k. Excuse me? I have four kids. I'll work for free to prove my worth before I'll work that cheap.

No, it seems I'm drawn to all the wrong choices and I'm on my way into a major career change. But that is an entirely separate issue from WebObjects.

Fact. WebObjects isn't going anywhere. Apple uses it and that is enough to guarantee it will be here long term.
Fact. WebObjects is progressing even if you think Apple isn't progressing it.
Fact. WebObjects tools are getting updated even if on a lower priority than other technologies at Apple. Get over it.
Fact. WebObjects is still the best there is in critical categories and in this increasingly malware-ridden world it is an oasis.
Fact. Every year another class of Java educated graduates hits the street. They have the ability to be up to speed on WebObjects very quickly if informed of its utility.
Fact. The vast majority of those in management today were educated before Java was taught extensively in most colleges.

// Insert critical mass here.

It looks like I'll be driving a big rig soon so don't take this like a pie in the sky dream. I only mean to point out that I have observed a lot of new school frustration with old school management and it will come to a head, but it is a few years out. I expect it'll coincide with the coming Longhorn debacle.

Meanwhile I am willing to relocate (seriously) and I have a Class A CDL (really) with HazMat and Doubles Triples endorsements. So if anyone knows of any openings....
