Ok, I've got my simple WebObjects application written and I'm happy
with it. I've done all my local testing, and I'm happy with
everything. Now I'm getting ready to deploy it.
I've got the luxury of having a Cisco Content Switch to manage my load
balancing between a couple of application servers, so I would like to
deploy this to my two Sun Fire 100's running Apache and Tomcat, which I
prefer to Sun's Application Server. I've gotten the application
deployed to both and it works flawlessly, however I currently have one
of the boxes turned off because I still can't figure out the answer to
one simple question, and the license is vague regarding this.
It's clear that you have a Dev and Dep license in each box. The
deployment licensing when used with teh Apple WO Application Server is
crystal clear. I need another WO Retail box.
But...
With a single directory deployment, your license is tied to the war,
and there is no Application Server installation and license. This
would imply that the license is a run-time license tied to the
application, not the application server. I can't find anything in the
license that implicitly discusses the situation regarding the SSDD
deployment options.
What I infer currently is that either, A, the intent of the SSDD
deployment is that it can be deployed without the WO license and is
tied to the Development kit (much like the MS ASP.NET run-time license
is tied to the compiler, not the host), or B, the intent is that you
rebuild the app with a new Deployment license for each and every
licensed deployment.
I'd like to hear from the community how you understand and read this,
because candidly, I'm confused.
Andy
