Personally I believe Cocoa WO to be the most powerful solution in an all Mac environment. Unfortunately Apple doesn't seem to have this as a priority and consequently don't support this situation (they let you do it, but they won't give much assistance in terms of documentation).

The path you have chosen will be a challenge, but perhaps worth it if you are going to do fancy stuff outside the powers of Java and the Swing interface. Good luck on your travels. I will be following myself at some stage.
