For any practical purpose, JMS is overkill by half in most case.
I wont go into the issues here, but I am experimenting with options.
My question is: does anyone have good or bad experiences using
Rendezvous (ZeroConf) with WebObjects applications?
For its intended use, DNS-SD is very sleek indeed. It would make a very
good replacement for the discovery part of WOMonitor for example.
On the other hand, DNS-SD has nothing to do with actual change
notification, except perhaps for "presence" events. After all, DNS is a
simple directory service. This is not going to help you much with
distributed notification. On the other hand, something as simplistic as
multicasting might. Never underestimate the simplicity of the UDP
midget :)
One way or another, subverting good, old protocols like, say, DNS, POP,
SMTP and SYSLOG can take you a long way :)
Good luck with your project.
Cheers,
PA.
