Thanks Jonathan and Dirk .... silly me, no ping worked on the name. Using the actual IP solved it.

By the way, what is the significance of the using the SelectMethod and Trusted_Connection parameters with WebObjects?

Hi Kieran,

URL: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://uspalws01:1433; Databasename=legacydb

where uspalws01 is the name of the PC and the database name is legacydb

This is the error I get

[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket.

just a thought: Can you ping the database server? Does the name lookup work? Try using the IP address instead of the computer name.

Hope that helps,
Dirk
