Well, Colin is the man.

I set the undoManager for the peer and child editing contexts to null and voila - the thing ran to completion without a call to invalidateAllObjects() - and it ran 30% faster.

Does that mean that the defaultEditingContext() does not have an undo manager by default, while a call to new EOEditingContext() returns an EC that by default does have an undo manager?

Thanks for your input, Colin! No aspirin for me today! :-)
