Ray,
Had a look at the page you placed there. While I think it's good, I
expect you are after some constructive criticism as well.
Yes, I am after constructive criticism. I think that collectively, we
can come up with something much better than any individual one of us could.
Starting with a simple item, there is a spelling mistake (wierd), but
if I was so motivated I could fix that directly ;).
Could you please? - because I can't find it.
On a more general level, the tone of the chapter does feel that it is
more a talk than a textbook. I expect this is a result of it coming
from a workshop direction. While this isn't bad in itself, IMHO it
means that your personality is reflected in the writing which can
make chapters by other people difficult to maintain consistency.
I was worried about this because both the bits I wrote (some of 'What is
WebObjects?' and a 'HelloWOrld' tutorial) are a bit informal and
'coversational'. You're right I did re-work some material from a talk -
but I also wrote it after reading 'Hibernate: A Developer's Notebook'
which is written in a very informal style. Personally, I like this style
- but only when the whole book has been written by the one author - I
think it'll be very difficult to read if the book is a mix of different
informal styles. I'm happy to edit my stuff and make it more formal -
but I'd like to take my 'cue' for the tone from the other parts of the
book - so I might wait till there's some more content before editing
these sections too much.
Thanks for the feedback.
Jake
