I've used Eclipse at work for quite a while and I've used Xcode for
Java development. I've been a Java developer for almost a decade now.
My opinion is that Eclipse is far superior to Xcode for pure Java
development. I mean, really, there isn't any comparison at all.
But the fact that Xcode includes EOModeller and WOBuilder really
swing the balance to it for WO work.
XCode includes nothing. EOM and WOB are separate apps. You might
think that they have a little bit of deeper integration, like when
you create instance variable and the like, but that's about it.
That, and the fact that I have abysmal luck in getting Eclipse plug-
ins to work, have kept me on Xcode for WO development. (Seriously,
I have tried to get something like 50 Eclipse plug-ins working. I
think I've gotten maybe 5-6 to work).
Uh. This may be the same as using 50 System extensions in OS 9. It
*could* be done, but so can lobotomy without narcosis: the subject
tends to die in the process.
Eclipse has a pretty decent scheme to manage dependencies between
plugins (all the java stuff is just a plugin btw), but I for my part
try to stay at the bare minimum:
- WOLips
- jadclipse
- WOLips dependencies
I don't even use the SVN plugin - which would be really helpful -
until someone I trust assures me that she uses it on a daily basis
with no problems.
