Ah, OK, so I think I misinterpreted Alan's original post to mean that
he HAD to restart to switch branches, when I think he meant it like
what you're saying, where it's just easier to maintain a separate
project/workspace for each branch = effectively a restart (not that
he's doing the equiv of a Team=>Replace with ...=>Another Branch).
So nevermind, except that Andrus is correct -- 800Mhz PPC Eclipse =
really painful vs Intel New Hotness = not so much anymore. Now we
just need a quad xeon Intel MBP.

Anyone happen to know if this is true of the SVN plugins in
Eclipse as well? That would be a bit of an obnoxious limitation
if you have to restart like that (I haven't had to do it in SVN yet).

There is probably a way to do it, but I usually just create one
workspace per branch. The cleanest way IMO (e.g. Cayenne maintains
3 branches at the moment with often incompatible folder
structures). Switching workspaces is almost as time consuming as
full Eclipse restart and in the PowerBook 800MHz days this was a
pain. Not so with MacBook, so the whole thread on Eclipse startup
time is outdated.
