Thanks Chuck for replying so quickly,
You won't believe this, but I realized that I had FlameRobin open and connected to the database when I was doing synchronizations. By just disconnecting FlameRobin, the synchronizations worked famously! Ugh... all that fretting about commits, etc. was just wrong.
I will write up some documentation and release it to the world in a few days.
