It's not that bad --it really depends on where you come from and what your comfort level is for hookers and street people. That area gets patrolled pretty regularly, it's well lit, and it has lots of people walking around. I wouldn't be concerned. The worst that is likely to happen to you is to get propositioned or panhandled.

Oh man, is it really so bad that you should be in a cab? I'm staying at 610 Geary (Geary and Leavonworth) which looks to be just inside the Tenderloin. Last year, I stayed over at 7th and Howard and didn't have any trouble. I found this (http://www.sfgate.com/ traveler/guide/sf/neighborhoods/tenderloin.shtml). It looks like it could be a fun neighborhood. I was planning on walking around.

Hang on a minute... I was confusing the Mark Twain with the Mark Hopkins. The Mark Twain is at O'farrel and Taylor
which is in the Tenderloin. But it's probably only a $4 cab ride from Moscone.

Hi!

I booked my stay in Mark Twain Hotel: <http://www.google.com/ maps?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&q=mark +twain&near=San+Francisco, +CA&cid=0,0,10936642302192841740&ll=37.785510,-122.411343&spn=0,.02& iwstate1=form:to&sa=X&oi=local&ct=directions-to>

Some reviews say it's crap, some say it's good. I guess it's good enough for me, but I got worried about one review, that says it's a bad location of SF. For you guys who know SF, how bad is it? I don't mind about prostitution and stuff, but is it OK to carry my bag with the powerbook every WWDC day (specially the meet-up day, that ends by 10pm)?
