[OT]10.5 Server DNS set-up

  • Subject: [OT]10.5 Server DNS set-up

I'm trying to get to the point where I can migrate to WO5.4 but first I have to bring up the new Intel 10.5 server, migrating from PPC 10.4 OSX server.

I can't get DNS to go, the other Services, like Users, FTP, and Mail I was able to get to go by dragging out from Server Admin on 10.4 box and dropping onto Server Admin of 10.5 box, but for DNS none of the Zones showed, supposedly the docs say you will get a <Do you want to upgrade for the DNS records?) but I never saw that message. After several days of trying I gave up, cleared out the <named.conf> file which I had merged from the old Server and resolved to enter the 7 Master and 22 Slave Zones manually through Server Admin.

But, after filling out the first Master Zone record into Server Admin and hitting Save, the pane got cleared and the Zone didn't show in the list and <named.conf> had no new information.

Console showed the following message:
...servermgrd46]: Exception in doCommand NSCFArray replaceObjectAtIndex:withObject: attempt to insert nil.

I'm also posting on
Apple.com > Support > Discussions > Mac OS X Server v10.5 Leopard > Installation, Setup and Migration
but no responses so far.
