I'm about to switch to using prototypes (wonder). A few questions...
1. From what I've read some runtime work is necessary to switch
between database specific prototype entities. How does that relate
to entity modeler's Database config popup that allows one to simply
choose from all the present ones?
Under normal circumstances, switching according to prototype "just
works". You will need to tell EOF which connection dictionary, and
therefore database plugin, to use, but that is all.
2. I do not use wonder, since we focus at the moment only on
JavaClient apps. But we need to do the multiple model frameworks /
multiple apps setup. What I've tried doing is linking in just
ERPrototypes, and not other parts of wonder. WOLips behaves, but can
this cause problems down the road? Specifically, is wonder doing the
work described in the first question? If so, would it work to skip
that and use the Practical WO code to do it manually, thereby using
erprototypes, but no wonder?
You don't need to use Wonder to use prototypes or frameworks.
The simplest approach is to take the prototypes eomodel from the
Wonder frameworks, and insert it into one of your own frameworks.
There is nothing else that actually has to be done.
If there are some additional requirements you have, then by all means
look at Chuck's book, or Wonder. But it's not mandatory.
3. If anyone else wants to share their setup experience that could
be relevant, please do!
