Hello Mike;
It does it all the time when it's on...The only issue here is
cascade delete rules
It's a nice feature and I do agree that I have seen people get
_totally_ confused by the asymmetric relationships. This feature
would really help beginners avoid experiencing the confusion, but
maybe that experience is worth the pain -- I'll explain;
The to-many side of the relationship may be handy to have there, but
sometimes better to ignore at the cost of the half-out-of-sync
problem. An example being a process of many hundreds of thousands of
units of batch work where an EO instance could be added to one side of
the relationship without realising the significant cost involved in
the fault of the other relationship direction. One could argue that
the to-many should be removed, but perhaps in the same WOA, the
relationship may be very useful in a user interface element.
As you point out, this is stuff I know from experience, but maybe if
the reverse-relationship had always been filled for me from my first
days working with WebObjects then I might not have come to this
understanding of EOF's architecture so quickly and been able to
leverage it. So on one hand, the auto-filling of the reverse
relationship is a definite learning-aid and on the other hand it many
hide some useful aspects of the infrastructure.
cheers.
