Hello Miguel,

For certain compute intensive/long response type tasks you can use Scala (with Actors).
It's probably not for those starting out WO, but this should help:

For even more information be sure to attend WOWODC.
There's a presentation on Scala + WO that deals exactly with this! (i.e How to exploit multi-core processors in WebObjects :)
