I went back and reread your original message. Your current deployment
machine OS is going to be replaced. What are you replacing it with?
Either CentOS 7 oder Ubuntu Xenial.
We won't be using many of the 15000 oder 20000 packages that
Debian/Ubuntu provides, so we may as well use CentOS.
It's not a fixed decision, yet. I will choose whatever works best for
WebObjects.
I recommend that you use VMware vSphere Hypervisor (it’s free). The
beautiful part of this is that you can audition many different
deployments and then choose the one that you feel comfortable with.
We will most likely use VMWare vSphere (we have a rather large setup,
actually).
I really love working in VMware Hypervisor! Don’t be afraid of
compiling, it really isn’t that bad.
We don't really compile stuff on Linux, because we have no
infrastructure and no process for doing so reliably and in a
reproducable fashion after system-updates.
