Regarding Slack, there is also Mattermost. At my work, we are currently
considering to move away from Slack to a self hosted Mattermost installation.
There is also Discord, one of my other hobbies (puzzles) has a vivid community
there.
Regarding the wiki, I absolutely agree, there is more mis-information there
than real information. Apart from the lack of any moderator rights, another
hurdle would be my reluctance to edit/modify (or even delete *horror*) some of
the eternal words of wisdom that were etched there in stone some 10 years ago
by The Andrus, Chuck or Pascal.
But joking aside, there probably still is useful information in the wiki. I see
that some of the stuff there already has been moved away into a "Deprecated"
folder, which is a good start. Maybe eveything should be depracated, the top
level structure flattened (it adds to the confusion in its current state), and
then stuff which is still relevant can be slowly put back into the new fresh
wiki.
I would suggest to keep the existing URL, and not start a new wiki on a new
server somewhere, there is already the wikibook, and a Wonder Github wiki, and
whatnot, and then we will just have another one, and the information is even
more spread out and diverges.
